Sunday 4th October
Dear Friends,
I’m writing this whilst sat at the train station. I missed my train and must wait an hour for the next one. It’s an experience I think we can all relate to. Beforehand, I was running around the house trying to grab my things before heading out, then when I saw Google Maps say I was going to miss my train, I did some serious round the back side street weaving to get to the station. But as my car reached the station, I could see my train leaving the station. I’d missed it.
Obviously, I was frustrated. It messes up my plans a bit on the other end and of course I’m beating myself up about not getting out the house sooner. But having calmed down, I sit here and recognise the gift God has given to me. I was wondering when I was to fit in writing this message for the email this week and now God has given me this opportunity. I’ve been on the go constantly this week, and I’ve heard my mother-in-law say several times to me this week, ‘Don’t you ever stop?’ This week, the answer has been no. I keep plowing on given there is lots of church stuff to sort out, plus I’ve got a newborn and so there is even more to do at home. But that’s not the life Jesus wants for me, or any of us. Notice that Jesus never rushed anywhere, even in an urgent situation. I always remember how when he was called to visit his dying friend Lazarus, he waited two days before setting off, and then Lazarus was a few days dead on his arrival. Jesus is slow, steady and patient, and in all of that he is filled with the deep enteral peace of God. Now having stopped and sat in a train station with nothing left to do but be still and wait, I feel God has given me a moment of peace, a moment to receive the peace of God into my life today.
Missed trains are annoying and frustrating. But I wonder if the moments that throw us off in the week are actually small gifts from God to invite us into receive his peace. I hope whatever your week brings, you will find God’s peace today.

9.30am Eucharist at St Peter and St Andrew, Corby
11.00am Eucharist with Baptism at St Michaels, Great Oakley
